New Generations of Associative Rheology Modifiers for Enhanced Formulation of Decorative Coatings

Coatings formulations based on water borne polymers usually rely on agents to adjust their rheology profile to optimize properties such as sedimentation,flow and leveling,sagging,spattering,etc.Achieving a combination of various properties in parallel represents a challenging task and all stages-handling of the liquid coating,coating application and final coating properties-need to be considered.Additionally the attention for formulation costs is gaining an increasing importance.Recent Rohm and Haas product developments in the area of associative rheology modifiers led to three new product generations,responding to these identified market needs.This paper will introduce Rohm and Haas'three latest product developments,non-ionic urethane rheology modifiers,hydrophobically modified anionic thickeners and associative rheology modifiers as an alternative to cellulosic thickeners.
