Electronic toys: It's a PC world

In the Computer Paper, a Canadian periodical, author Jeff Evans examines the latest digital devices. While many of these are home-entertainment products, others have business applications and are designed to improve communications, Internet access and office productivity.Evans says there are a host of devices that can do some of the things a PC can do. The latest generation of digital cell phones includes models that are fairly capable short-message e-mail devices. However, with a wireless modem and a fold-out keyboard, Evans says, the latest generation Palm and PocketPC devices are more suitable for reading and writing e-mail. And for fall access to the multimedia content of the Web, he says there is still nothing available that beats the PC.
