For BoDean Co. Inc., the startup of the world's first solar-powered quarry is yet another milestone (albeit a major one) in its strategic journey toward superior energy efficiency. Before and after the company's well-attended "Flip the Switch" open house at its Mark West Quarry in May 2011, the press was abuzz about this stunningly impressive feat, and rightfully so. Yet for the management and staff of this Santa Rosa, Calif. - based facility, there is no resting on its laurels, but rather an urgency to continue the daily tweaking and forward thinking that leads to the next level.
