The first studies on the sol-gel are attributed to Ebelmen and Grahan, who in 1846 studied the formation of silica gel, starting from silicon alkoxides [Brinker & Scherer (1990)].The interest in this synthetic methodology, however, increased markedly in recent decades due to growing demand for innovative materials and alternative techniques for their synthesis. Sol-gel allows the creation of materials with chemical, physical and mechanical properties can be modulated at the molecular level to obtain products with the composition, microstructure and topology targeted.The sol-gel method is classified as a methodology for the synthesis of "soft chemistry", because solid state is obtained from low temperatures, operating under experimental conditions very bland, unlike other techniques but require more drastic operating conditions.
