California's first pervious concrete parking lot was recently completed at a park in Fair Oaks, near Sacramento. In addition to pollution prevention and stormwater-management benefits, the light-colored pavement is expected to be 20 to 40 degrees cooler in the summer than black asphalt, according to the California Cement Promotion Council (CCPC).The high-cement-content mix contains no fine aggregate and has a low water/cement ratio. It is delivered in ready-mix trucks and placed in conventional forms. The wet concrete is vibrated and rolled to increase its density and strength.
