South Central report

Stone producers in the South Central region of the United States report steady market conditions, though market conditions in Texas - the region's biggest producer by far -are softening somewhat alter a tremendous surge in the late 1990s.Fuel prices, labor and transportation are among the regional concerns. Wet weather also dampened production earlier this year, but volume has increased as temperatures have warmed. Though the production numbers have disappointed some people, others say the boom-boom years have created unrealistic expectations. In general, the market situation can be described aptly as steady but unspectacular.
