When talks broke down, Martin Marietta Materials Inc. made an unsolicited exchange offer to acquire Vulcan Materials, which was unanimously rejected by Vulcan's board of directors. Martin Marietta hasn't given up the fight, and continues efforts to persuade Vulcan Materials and its shareholders to accept its offer. The battle has gotten nasty, and it's gone public.
