One hundred and five years ago an entrepreneurial quarry owner made a revolutionary development in the aggregates mining industry. The significance of this development, however, was not fully realized until the recent discovery of a shipwreck in Lake Michigan. Last summer Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates (MSRA), the organization that I co-founded, set out to locate the wreck of a 214-ft. cargo streamer. MSRA is a non-profit organization of scuba divers and historians dedicated to the preservation of Michigan's submerged maritime history.
