The sinewy veins covering the surface of tree leaves are the inspiration for a simple tactic to boost the efficiency of lightweight, flexible solar cells. "Tree leaves have microstructures on the surface, and their photosynthetic process is very efficient," says Yueh-Lin Loo, a professor of chemical and biological engineering at Princeton Univ. "We wanted to see if we could use that idea in solar cell systems."
