Two basic lessons from this case are: (1) Companies may adopt logical employment policies to foster the well-being of their businesses so long as the policies are not discriminatory against persons with protected characteristics; and (2) Companies must apply such policies fairly and uniformly to avoid claims of misuse of the policies to the detriment of protected persons.
