Ohio-based Master Builders Inc.'s new 4x4 Concrete is hard enough in just four hours to drive a truck over, the company says. The Concrete Paving Association documented in-place savings of roughly 750 dollars per cu. meter using 4x4 Concrete compared to using proprietary fast-setting cement concrete. This savings is equivalent to about 1 million dollars per lane mile. "This innovation is the direct result of work we did with the California Department of Transportation. They were searching for an alternative to traditional rapid-setting cements that would be easier to place and offer more time for placing and finishing, while still achieving fast return to service and long pavement life," says Mark Bury, senior product manager for Master Builders.
