Third quarter output slightly tops'99 figures

The estimated output of crushed stone produced and shipped for consumption in the third quarter of 2000 was 451 million metric tons, an increase of only 0.8 percent compared with the same period of 1999. The estimated output of construction sand and gravel produced and shipped for consumption in the third quarter of 2000 was 341 million metric tons, an increase of 1.6 percent compared with the same period of 1999.These estimates and based on the information reported to the U.S. Geological Survey quarterly sample survey by the crushed stone and sand and gravel producers.
