Bikram Gill: cytogeneticist and wheat man.

摘要

This paper describes the life history of a cytogeneticist, Bikram Gill, and his involvement in research on tomato cytogenetics, chromosome banding, wild wheat, sugarcane breeding, germplasm evaluation and enhancement, wheat karyotype establishment and gene pool, Q gene, gene cloning, hybrid centromeres, chromosome bin mapping, comparative genomics and wheat evolution, and wheat genome sequencing. Bikram Gill's research using related wild species developed many wheat germplasm lines with novel resistance genes to many pests of wheat. His work with plant pathologists, entomologists, breeders, molecular biologists, and cytogeneticists around the world demonstrate the value he placed on establishing collaborations for the betterment of the wheat crop. Today, his students are working with many different crops and venues, private and public.
