13 AIChE~R Spring Meeting, San Antonio, TX

The 2013 Spring Meeting and 9th Global Congress on Process Safety (GCPS) delivered nearly 150 technical sessions across seven topical conferences and special program tracks. Held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX, the conference attracted 2,350 registrants from over 50 countries, contributing to the diversity and international perspectives offered at the meeting. Among the special events and highlights was a new topical conference on Chemical Manufacturing for the 21 st Century. At the Process Development Div. plenary session, Richard Palluzi (ExxonMobil) spoke on "Pilot Plants: Past, Present, and Future," and Joseph Powell (Shell) presented a talk entitled "Process Development: Managing Risk and Expectations." Another well-received session was devoted to professional licensure. Social events included receptions, a networking luncheon, and events tailored especially to the interests of young chemical engineering professionals.
