A new recycling process consisting of a series of unit operations turns old shoes into useful materials. Developed at Loughborough Univ.'s Innovative Manufacturing and Construction Research Centre (IMCRC) in the U.K., the process has completed its first trial run. The team is now evaluating the economics of the process, as well as studying the quality of the recycled materials to determine the appropriate application for each one.
