Gluing together biological tissue to repair wounds and close surgical incisions can be tricky, often requiring complex methods such as in situ polymerization. And, while suture and staple technologies have come a long way, they still have limitations. Ludwik Leibler, an associate professor, and his colleagues at Ecole Superieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles (ESPCI) have come up with a simple, easy-to-use method that employs nanoparticles as an adhesive for gluing together polymer hydrogels and biological tissues. The glue could be useful in emerging technological and biomedical applications such as microfruidics, surgery, and tissue engineering.
