With 1 figure and 1 table To determine the inheritance of resistance to race 0 in chickpea five recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations developed from crosses using both resistant (WR315, CA1938, JG62) and susceptible (ILC3279, ILC5275, CA1796, PV1) parental lines were used. Assessment of resistance was based on wilting phenomenon in chickpea. The presence of the two major genes controlling resistance to race 0 of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris (Foc) was tested by analysis of the distribution extremes for each RIL population using sequence tagged microsatellite sites markers tightly linked to each gene (TR59 for the locus Foc0/foc0 and TA59 for Foc0/foc0). The resistant gene Foc0/foc0 seems to be present in both CA1938 and WR315 resistant parents while the presence of the gene Foc0/foc0 was confirmed in the resistant parent JG62. Apart of these major genes imparting vertical resistance, other genes seem to be present related with slow wilting resistance to race 0 in WR315. In order to manage both vertical and slow wilting resistance, more efforts should be done to know the genetics of slow wilting and to map the gene(s) implicated.
