Metamaterials are artificial materials engineered to express properties that may not be readily available in nature, such as the ability to distort light or sound waves. Scientists at Imperial College London discovered in the 1990s that the structures of some fabricated materials are able to bend electromagnetic radiation around a spherical space — apparently hiding any object within that region.
