China, Russia advance plans for 1,500-mi oil line

The governments of Russia and China have agreed to formulate plans for building a 1.7-billion dollars, 1,500-mi pipe line to carry Siberian crude oil to markets in northeastern China, according to the Associated Press.A pipe line accord to that effect was signed by officials from the Russian oil producer Yukos, the Russian pipe line entity Transneft, and the China National Petroleum Corp. The accord follows a preliminary feasibility study announced in February 1999, and a more detailed feasibility study announced in early 2000. The current study is expected to take 10 months to complete.
