Leading Economic Indicator is Key to Trend Forecasting

Most business economists monitor a large number and variety of indicators to gauge the state of the economy. This can be overwhelming. As an economist, my wish would be for a single indicator that would predict both the direction and pace of the economy. Unfortunately, no such "single bullet" exists, but one comes fairly close: the leading economic indicator (LEI).
