Bayer Builds a New Aniline Facility

Bayer MaterialScience (Leverkusen,Germany; www.bayermateri-alscience.com) plans to build a plant in Antwerp,Belgium,aimed at commercializing a cost-effective process for the production of aniline,a precursor to the manufacture of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI),a key chemical component in the production of polyurethane foams and elastomers.( Construction of the 50,000 metric ton/yr (m.t./yr) facility is scheduled to begin shortly and reach completion in early 2006.
