The families of pathogenesis-related proteins, their activities, and comparative analysis of PR-1 type proteins

The families of pathogenesis-related proteins (PRs) associated with plant defence and their activities are reviewed, and the results of a comparative analysis of PR-1 type proteins are described. It is concluded that the high extent of sequence conservation of the plant PR-1 proteins from different plant families is extensive, but so far does not offer any clues concerning their mode of action.
