ISPE's first Asian conference.

For many members of ISPE, there has been a long-held aspiration to engage more extensively with Asian colleagues working in pharmacoepidemiology and its constituent fields.Some 11 years ago, whilst the Society was still focused on developing reliable roots in North America and Europe, pharmacoepidemiologists in Japan banded together to form the Japanese Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (JSPE). This dynamic Society now has some 400 members, and a lively annual meeting. It has been publishing its Japanese Journal of Pharmacoepidemiology twice a year for 10 years now. Despite periodic efforts on the part of the ISPE Board in intervening years, it has not seemed possible to develop any consistent dialogue between the two Societies despite precise parallels in mission and scope of professional memberships.
