A HIDDEN SYMMETRY OF THE IDEAL MHD-EQUATIONS

A variational principle is given for the incompressible ideal MHD-equations in two dimensions. An interpretation of the action functional in terms of moving strings is presented and it is shown that a hidden symmetry exists between coordinate space and the flow and stream function space. New solutions are found by applying the symmetry to known solutions. [References: 5]
