In face of different challenges, vocational education, which was established to purely train students to gain skills that the society demands in order to boost economy and enhance social advances, gradually tends to concentrate on character development and overall quality of students. Chinese instruction is playing an irreplaceable role in cultivating students’ professional ethics and improving students overall abilities. However, current vocational schools train students in skill-focused career in order to establish school reputation at the expense of students’ overall character and quality cultivation. It is seen some vocational schools have a tendency to cut Chinese courses, not mentioning of the vital role that Chinese course provides, which is to strength students’ professional ethics. Because of the demands of vocational education and the reform of Chinese curriculum, therefore, this paper explores ways of integrating Chinese course into skilled-based curriculum and proposes Activity - based Project Teaching in Chinese instruction at vocational colleges with the intensive study of different education pedagoges. (1) Situated learning Students gain knowledge and skills in authentic and interactive settings. (2) Activity - based Project Teaching integrates knowledge, skills and character in a dynamic setting and students are given driving challenges and problem. (3) Performance-based assessment Students work as a team and explore their interests and present their gained knowledge. (4) Dynamic assessment process Students are knowing and doing. Research indicates the learning style of ABPT is meaningful to the Chinese instruction at vocational schools, which can integrate knowledge and skills in group tasks.
