Research on the Translatability and Untranslatability in the Translation of C-E Idioms

Due to the differences in cultural background and living customs between China and the West, there are differences in the usage of Chinese and English idioms, which leads to the emergence of translatability and untranslatability in the process of English-Chinese translation phenomenon. The translatability of English and Chinese idioms can be divided into three parts: ancient language, allusion, proverb, and allegorical words. The untranslatability is mainly manifested in four aspects: the untranslatability of speech, The Untranslatability of Grammatical Structures and the Untranslatability of Linguistic. However, translation strategies such as literal translation, free translation, transliteration, substitution, etc. can be translated into the possibility of untranslatability, so as to achieve the best translation effectiveness.
