:Objective To investigate the training needs and model of nurses from primary health care institutions in Xiamen. Methods 〓Totally 468 nurses from primary health care institutions in Xiamen were recruited by random sampling method, in which 224 cases form urban areas and 244 from rural areas. The self-made questionnaire was used to investigate the training needs of nurses. Results 〓There was no significant difference in age, education level, professional title, working age in community healthcare center, participation in on-the-job training between nurses form urban areas and those from rural areas(P0.05). There was a significant difference in training program, training method, training practice and balance between theoretical and practical learning between nurses form urban areas and those from rural areas(P0.05),but was no significant difference in willing of training and training requirement between two groups(P0.05). Conclusion 〓Given the difference of training needs between nurses from urban areas and from rural areas, it is required to establish a hierarchical and sub-regional training model and to improve the quality of training for nurses in community healthcare centers.
