Information Literacy and the Flipped Classroom: Examining the Impact of a One-Shot Flipped Class on Student Learning and Perceptions

Thisarticleexaminestheflippedclassroomapproachinhighereducationanditsuseinone-shotinformationliteracyinstructionsessions.TheauthorpresentsfindingsfromapilotstudyofstudentlearningandstudentperceptionspertainingtoflippedmodelILinstruction.Studentsfromtwosectionsofthesamecourseparticipatedinthisstudy.Onesectionreceivedone-shotinformationliteracyinstructionusingaflippedapproach,whiletheothersectionreceivedtraditionalone-shotinstruction.Nodifferencewasfoundbetweenthetwogroupsonapre-andpost-testanalysis;however,ananalysisofstudents’finalpapersfromtheflippedsectionshowedmorebibliographycitationstoscholarlyjournalarticles.Inaddition,asurveywasconductedshowingthemajorityofstudentspreferredtheflippedapproach.
