摘要

The market is filled with introductory-level texts that seek to make the case to Christians that creation care is a theological mandate. However, with a few notable exceptions (such as Cynthia Moe-Lobeda's Resisting Structural Evil), we have not seen many books that take the further step of helping nonspecialists think through the complexities of environmental ethical debates. With An Introduction to Christian Environmentalism: Ecology, Virtue, and Ethics, Kathryn D. Blanchard and Kevin J. O'Brien (both of whom teach undergraduates) seek to fill this lack in an accessible yet appropriately nuanced manner. Rather than offering yet another apologia for the necessity of Christian environmental action, the authors instead presume general acceptance on the part of readers of the idea that Christians ought to pursue creation care; with that assumption in place, their task is to illustrate an ethical framework by which Christians might envision how best to tackle tough questions and controversies among advocates for environmentalism.
