During the year the association has enrolled more than 50 members, moved its HQ, and dedicated itself—through its successful Journal, education programme, Conference and other activities—to real service of the industry. This was demonstrated by the fact that the Conference, the best attended for many years, had delegates from some 14 countries present. Thirty-two lectures were crammed into the three days, with even a 7.30 am start still restricting each talk to 30 minutes. As is customary in ALCA the lectures balanced the theoretical with the practical and there was a considerable focus on automobile leathers as this is a major and growing segment of US manufacture. That interest is high and the programme well put together was highlighted by the strong attendance throughout, with the historic tendency of slippage to the golf course largely a thing of the past. Right through to the long Saturday afternoon the delegates listened and took notes.
