Brazil has a large cattle herd, as everyone knows. In 2013, the national herd size was 193 million head and the slaughter rate was 42 million in the year. Projections suggest slaughter will go up to 52 million by 2020, so Brazilian bovine hides are in plentiful supply. Leandro Jose Scur, who runs the Tre Anytry tannery, prefers less readily available material.
