The five secular steel decks at Pantin were replaced between 5 July 2003 and 17 August 2003 using an original handling system. The old structures were removed by rail on self-propelled lorries travelling on running beams. Jacking towers enabled the system to be raised or lowered. The new decks were put in place by the reverse process on springers which were completely prefabricated. This project disturbed rail and road traffic for only two months, with effective replacement of the decks in three times fifteen days (i.e. one and a half months).
