The Aiguille du Midi site, culminating at an altitude of 3 842 metres, can be accessed from Chamonix by a cable car which each year enables thousands of people to profit from an exceptional view of Mont-Blanc and the surrounding peaks. For several years now, Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, which operates the cable car and manages the site, has called on CAN to conduct safety improvement work on the site : controlled removal of unstable blocks of rock, drilling and grouting of consolidation anchor bolts, or again, installation of protective nets. High attitudes are very demanding with respect to the human and material resources required for satisfactory work performance.
