ROCHETAILLÉE-SUR-SAÔNE LOCK: EXTENSION AND GUIDE WALLS

Voies navigables de France (VNF) awarded a consortium led by Tournaud (Vinci Construction France) a contract for lock-chamber extension works and construction of the guide wall for the Rochetaillée-sur-Saône lock located north of Lyon on the Saône River (point PK 17). The work was carried out from September 2015 to end-February 2017. The contract, worth more than €6 million excluding VAT, involved constructing a 10.50-metre extension for the existing lock, a guide wall on the left bank and a breakwater on the right bank to allow 190-metre convoys to enter the lock chamber safely. This highly technical work was performed by a workforce of 50 on site and more than 25 engineers and designers in 10 different engineering offices who worked on various subjects such as the controlled lowering by jacking of a 500-tonne structure or the mix design of an underwater self-placing concrete.
