The word 'Hinterveld' literally means 'the land behind.' It refers to the vast, dry and barren Karoo plains behind the Southern Cape escarpment of South Africa. This is the area where most of the world sources its mohair from and where the Angora goat lives and thrives. In Uitenhage, half an hour's drive from Fort Elizabeth, you will find one of the few, and perhaps the only, weaving mills that specialises in mohair textiles. Hinterveld is part of a vertically integrated, family owned textile manufacturing group. Over 150 years the Stucken Group has continued its strategy of involvement in all the stages of the mohair value chain.
