Last year Compass Wool Processors (CWP) became the first Malaysian company to join the International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO). The aim of this commission early stage processor was to offer a 'one stop shop' for scouring, topmaking (carding/combing) of sliver and open tops, and the application of shrink resist treatments. Over the past year, Stefan Bernerius, CWP business manager, has received very positive reaction from clients for both topmaking and scouring, with several customers having made a commitment to work with the company and others keen to trial. To date these customers are mainly traditional 'western' wool trading companies and Asia-based spinners and traders controlling their own supply chains.
