Europe Tests Mobile TV Technologies

Operators are experimenting with DVB-H, but so far no clear-cut business model has emerged despite numerous mobile TV trials and some commercial services. Dublig, Ireland-While a slew of mobile TV trials and commercial services have been launched in Europe, some serious questions around the business model plague the emerging service. Two types of technology platforms are being considered. The first, which can be commercially launched now, involves streaming TV content over the mobile network. The other, which so far can only be offered on a trial basis, combines a broadcast technology such as digital video broadcasting-handhelds (DVB-H) or digital audio broadcasting (DAB) with cellular phones to deliver the broadcasts.
