In the last few years, hybrid sensors and vehicular networks (HSVN) has been proposed to create a reliable framework of collaboration between wireless sensor networks (WSNs) deployed on roads and the Vehicular Ad hoc NETwork (VANET). The main objectives of HSVN are the improvement of road safety and performances of the two networks. To evaluate the performance of HSVN, there are two metrics. These metrics are detection-efficient of events and best delivery delay of messages while saving as much as possible the sensor energy. In this study, a strategy efficient allowing extending the lifetime of WSNs has been proposed. This strategy is based on three solutions. Firstly, the proposition of an algorithm which is based on the proprieties of roads to decompose the WSNs into clusters. Secondly, achieving a simple method to select clusters’ head according to the sensor energy and its location. Thirdly, proposition of an algorithm using dynamic-sleeping periods. Obtained results prove that the strategy allows conserving sensor energy while ensuring the best delay of transmission of messages.
