Globe Telecom launches VoLTE and VoWiFi

Globe Telecom of the Philippines is launching its voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) service along with voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) that aims to 'improve voice call experience for its customers'. In a press release the carrier confirmed that the new services will initially be available in Metropolitan Manila (officially the National Capital Region [NCR]) and to selected customers from this week. Globe went on to point out that with VoLTE technology now in place, its customers will be able to benefit from clearer high-definition voice calls over the 4G LTE network, instead of relying on the older 3G platform to handle their calls. VoWiFi (or Wi-Fi calling) extends network coverage in areas with poor signal quality, allowing calls to be routed over Wi-Fi instead of a 2G/3G/LTE network, without the need for any app. Further, it said that the new services will initially be available to selected Globe post-paid customers including business customers, with mobile devices from Samsung, Huawei and some Nokia models supporting VoLTE, alongside VoWiFi available on Samsung devices.
