Wi-Fi, the wireless networking technology that enables devices to connect to the Internet and to WLANs has become increasingly important as an Internet access technology during the past few years. Wi-Fi now provides mobile workers and travelers with the ability to connect to the global network wherever an access point is available. Wi-Fi networks use radio technologies defined by IEEE standards 802.11, 802.11b, 802.1 la and 802.11g to provide fast, reliable wireless networking. The small, compact mobile client devices as well as industrial, office and home wireless automation are where 8-bit Wi-Fi-cnablcd microcontrollers can be used extensively as cost- and power-saving alternatives.
