A PLL Module Design for W-CDMA Direct RF Modulation Systems

W-CDMA is one of the most important emerging technological platforms of next generation of 3G mobile communication systems. Figure 1 shows the basic block diagram of this design. This article discusses the basic theory, design and simulation of a PLL circuit and VCO at 1.9 GHz. After the design has been developed, an application of this module in a W-CDMA mobile terminal system is presented, combining a superheterodyne receiver and direct modulation transmitter.
