Mobile devices recently overtook desktops as the preferred platform for media consumption. Sixty percent of time spent consuming media was through mobile usage, versus 40 percent on desktops. Mobile app usage is also on the rise. According to the U.S. Mobile App Report, 52 percent of digital media time is spent on mobile apps versus mobile web surfing or desktop usage. And, according to Mobile App Usage Statistics and Facts, by 2017 it is expected that app downloads will reach almost 270 billion. As mobile app usage increases, new opportunities abound for developers and designers. However, this growth also leads to increased concerns about privacy and data security. With the increasing pressure to offer new, relevant, and useful apps, mobile developers must continue to be diligent about privacy practices and data security as they come under increasing scrutiny.
