Everyone knows the story of the Great Escape: During World War II, imprisoned Allied airmen organized a massive three-tunnel, sneak-out-the-dirt-in-your-trousers getaway from a German POW camp. Not everyone knows what happened next: Fifty of the recaptured escapees were shot by the Gestapo in cold blood (and in violation of the Geneva Convention).
