This magazine's art director's art on display at Cleveland Hopkins airport

Next time you visit the Cleveland Hopkins airport, taxi down Concourse A and admire "Green Utopia," the terrazzo art in the walkway. Then look up and see the sign that identifies the artist as Mark Rook. He's the design and creative director of the fine magazine you are reading. The artwork was unveiled in March. The piece is part of the airport's Terrazzo Art Project with the theme of "Cleveland-A Green City on a Blue Lake (Past, Present b Future)." What was Rook's inspiration? "Public Square gave me a place to start. If you get to Hopkins airport and you're familiar with Cleveland, stand on the Square at the middle and look around. You'll recognize the buildings and landmarks. The green swath is the Metropark and the color bands are different sunrises and sunsets. And the waves, of course, are Lake Erie, with sailboats, other wind powered devices." Rook says that when he heard of the contest to select art for the airport, he started sketching and then turned to Adobe Illustrator, a computer program that let him take overall dimensions, put elements in place, and test color schemes.
