Windpower design firms run on engineering and support software. The general categories of software that an engineering firm might use for a wind project include that for wind farm layouts, CFD software for aerodynamic design of blade surfaces, composite design software for proper placement of glass and carbon fibers, general CAD software, and project guidance software often referred to as project-lifecycle management. Smaller programs often called apps run on smart phones to assist in the selection of small components, such as seals.
