Recent predictions suggests that wind energy will represent more than one third of all electricity production from renewable energy sources by 2020 in European Union. Moreover the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) predicts a total wind energy installed capacity in 2020, equal to 230 GW including 40 GW offshore. The cumulative electric energy production at 2020 is 581 TWh. Onshore wind energy will remain dominant till 2030 but installations at sea will become increasingly important and the energy production (562 TWh) will become comparable with the onshore one (591 TWh) since 2030.
