As I begin my term as AWS President, I would like to share with you some of my goals for this year. Both at the local and national levels, the American Welding Society has worked hard to attract new talent to our industry through scholarship and fellowship programs and other initiatives. However, more needs to be done if we are to attract a bright new generation of welding and joining professionals who will become the next leaders of this multifaceted industry. The AWS must extend its reach by bringing its educational programs to a larger school audience, as well as develop a program to impress upon employers the value of using AWS certified personnel. Perhaps most importantly, AWS must expand its efforts nationally to improve the image of welding and joining among the general public. As your president, I will devote my efforts to these three areas.
