Death of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Draueelates

On 24 January 2008, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Draugelates, Goslar, died at the age of 73. DVS is mourning for a longstanding member who performed high functions at the national and international levels. He was born in Szczecin on 5 July 1934 and, after passing his final secondary school examination, began his studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University (TU) of Hanover in 1955. Having obtained his final diploma in the subject field of Materials Engineering, he was a Scientific Employee in the Institute for Materials Science at TU Hanover from 1963 to 1968. He obtained his doctor's degree in engineering at the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering of the TU in 1967. This was followed by years in the Research and Development Department of Friedrich Krupp GmbH in Essen. He was the Deputy Director of the Bremen Institute for Applied Materials Research of the Fraunhofer Society from 1972 to 1978 before becoming the Head of the Department for Research Planning and Administration in the German Society for Chemical Apparatus Engineering, Frankfurt/Main, for one year.
