The visual inspection of welded joints appears to be simple and uncomplicated at first glance. After executing a weld, every welder certainly looks at the root and the top side in order to gain a first impression. Even if he is satisfied with the result, that is not always sufficient. Above all, if a visual inspection has been agreed with the customer or is demanded by any sets of rules to be observed or by the legislator, it is necessary to apply a systematic procedure and to draw up an inspection log. The visual inspection of fusion-welded joints is governed by the EN ISO 17637 standard.
