'British Manufacturing and Fabrication in the Offshore Energy Industry'

A meeting of The Welding Institute's Offshore Energy Technical Group was held on Wednesday 27 November 2019 at the Jury's Inn, Aberdeen Airport. The theme was "British Manufacturing and Fabrication in the Offshore Energy Industry'" and the meeting was well supported, with 27 professionals attending from across industry and academia. Chris Stevens from Tata Steel delivered the first presentation of the day, entitled "Innovation, Efficiency, Integrity - How do we Optimise Pipeline Supply Chains?" He gave an introduction to Tata Steel's focus on research and development and detailed the high frequency induction pipe welding process used in their mill in Hartlepool. He then moved on to talk about three key areas related to optimising the supply chain (exploring innovation, striving for greater efficiencies and reducing project costs), and outlined how Tata Steel have addressed these areas to improve their welding process.
